Now, let's take a drive to Los Angeles to check out the car wash where Lonnie, played by Ivan Dixon, is the boss. This location was an actual car wash, as opposed to a movie set, and has been in operation since 1950. It even has an orange and blue sign that reads "Car Wash"! How cool is that?

Okay, let's take a step back and appreciate some of the classic scenes from the movie. The picture above shows the two-story car wash where we see all the colorful soap suds and the wacky customers, including Loretta Devine's character, who always comes through with her pink Cadillac. This car wash is also where George Carlin's character, Daddy Rich, makes his entrance in a limousine.
In this next picture, we see a more recent shot of the same car wash, some 36 years later. It's amazing how some things never change, huh? The small building in the background with the white and blue sign is actually the snack bar where Abdullah, played by Bill Duke, takes a break and delivers one of the movie's most memorable lines: "Don't nobody go in the bathroom for about 35-45 minutes."
Matchstick Men: The Car Wash Returns
Now, I know I said this was all about "Car Wash", but I couldn't resist including this picture from another classic movie that featured the same car wash location. This is the same building that was used in Ridley Scott's "Matchstick Men" and it still looks pretty much the same. I don't know about you, but I love seeing these real-life locations still standing after all these years.
